Fire risk assessments are a means to an end but not an end in themselves, and their value is largely dependent on the organisation's ability to manage the outcomes. Fire safety legislation is in its infancy and interpretation is still being tested. The profession has been somewhat pre-occupied tackling the cowboy market, yet seven years on many have realised that the current situation is unsustainable and some organisations are starting to think strategically. British Standards Institution will publish a new Fire Risk Management Systems Specification in 2013 and this workshop will provide a unique insight from the principle author.
