Cherene Whitfield

Equality & Diversity Specialist, Bristol City Council

Cherene is an MSc International Business graduate and Equality and Inclusion specialist. She has worked in Local and National Government for several years delivering Equality and Inclusion Programmes projects and legislative change initiatives.

She has worked for the Home Office driving forward changes to Police Force and Constabularies in the UK to help reduce domestic violence and alcohol related violent crime and contributed to good practice guides distributed around the country.

She currently works for Bristol City Council and tutors the next generation of leaders on the multi award winning Stepping Up Leadership Programme. Stepping Up won the prestigious Chartered Institute of Personnel Development’s Best Diversity and Inclusion and Overall winner late last year. The Programme aims to change the Leadership landscape in Bristol and the region and works cross-sector to reduce disparity, using data driven statistics to demonstrate impact and make a case for change.  

Cherene is a Qualified Project Manager,and uses project management techniques and tools to help he imbed Equality and Inclusion programmes and projects.   

Cherene’s unique experience in diversity and Inclusion is a blend of workforce and community related initiatives and embedment to drive through cultural and participatory change.

Cherene has consulted organisations on how to devise anti racists strategies and is involved in Equality and Inclusion good practice working groups outside of Bristol.

Cherene is a Trustee at Cathedral Primary School Trust.
