Urban Hope

Urban Hope is a semi-independent company set up in 2002 to develop access, regeneration and enterprise activities. These are located in Liverpool Hope University or commissioned by other agencies/institutions which are committed to resolving social/ regeneration issues through a commercial model. It currently employs 3 staff and associates and may call on additional staff from Liverpool Hope University College when required.  Dr Martin Carey has been its Chief Executive since its beginning.

Dr Carey was Executive Dean Deanery of Hope in the Community between 1995-2001. Prior to this role, he was Assistant Registrar at Liverpool Hope University College and has also lectured in Sociology and Industrial Relations.

He is an active member a number of organisations including the Merseyside Anti Racial Alliance, LSC; LPG;HEI Consortium, and is Chair of Equal Opportunities.

Dr Carey’s key business challenges are threefold: to combine social enterprise with financial challenges confronting higher education; to impact on regeneration agenda; and to develop subsidiary company which is cost effective and makes a difference.
