National Housing Maintenance Forum

Setting the standard for maintaining assets

Workshop 2d - Tuesday 14:00

Dispute Avoidance and Resolution

Disputes are best avoided but very few organisations have specific risk management procedures in place to avoid legal disputes. In the event that difficulties do arise, often lawyers are contacted late in the day for fear of escalation, needless expense and management time. This workshop is a practical introduction to tips on how to avoid disputes arising in the first place and what steps to take to manage difficulties when they occur to  prevent them from escalating and to ensure that they are resolved as quickly and cost-effectively as possible.

The workshop will consider what to take into account during the procurement processes to minimise risk of difficulties arising, review of risk management policies in place, training on dispute avoidance and management and how to address issues when they arise. Consideration will be given to negotiation, mediation and the more formal processes of Adjudication, Arbitration and Litigation.

This is an essential workshop for all those involved in Housing Maintenance to ensure that their department is well equipped to, where possible, avoid and where not possible, manage, disputes as and when they arise.
