Workshop 3c - Wednesday 10:00

Low carbon refurbishment & improvements for affordable housing

Paul's presentation will focus on their 'Generation Homes’ exemplar low carbon refurbishment project, undertaken in partnership with EST and ESD Ltd, the first homes to reach this standard in the UK. The benchmark for ‘Generation Homes’ requires that post refurbishment household carbon dioxide emissions are reduced by a minimum of 60% to align with the Governments 2050 target of a similar level in overall carbon reductions. The case study project achieved an impressive 75% reduction by employing a package of energy efficiency and renewable energy measures and will provide new affordable warmth to residents. The achievements of the project were acknowledged by experts in 2007 with the scheme winning the ‘Best low carbon development in the South East’ and NHIC awards. Paul will also discuss the ‘Closing the Loop’ project, a national initiative to help RSL’s install GSHP’s in which they participated in addition to retro fit PV and ASHP schemes. Drum HA, part of Radian group, were a winner of the Housing Corporation’s ‘Gold’ award for excellence in environmental sustainability in 2007.
