Julian Ransom, BSc MRICS, Director, iON-Consultants, NHMF Management Committee
Specialising in asbestos compliance consultancy for 15+ years, a chartered building surveyor for approaching 40 years, Julian is now the longest serving NHMF management committee member. Following 10 years at Ridge, and 8 years director with Savills, Julian has extensive Public and Private Sector experience.
One of the first to complete the National Individual Asbestos Certification Scheme (NIACS) proficiency training, Julian is now director with iON-Consultants undertaking asbestos compliance audits for Social Housing and other public and commercial portfolio managers / DSOs. Follow-on assistance includes a range of practical compliance solutions, on-going independent compliance auditing, training, and management of high-profile asbestos exposure/remediation cases.
Julian’s consultancy experience includes permanent and interim asset management roles, decent homes contract delivery, and regulator audit preparation/ representation (including 3-star KLOE awards). Direct procurement experience includes contract mobilisation/ management, process mapping workshops, and wide responsibility for resident involvement.
Julian has regularly spoken at conferences, often with the HSE, regarding strategic asbestos management, interpreting guidance, register databases and specialist procurement. He is involved with supplemental asbestos guidance for housing portfolio holders.
Julian represents the NHMF upon the Transforming Homes Project Steering Group (low-carbon ‘beyond retro-fit’ focus including pilot Council housing in Bristol and Swansea), together with The University of Cardiff, Bath, Exeter and Bristol.
Julian also leads the recent iON-Consultants partnership with Community Housing Cymru, facilitating a new asset management forum and co-arranging seminar/briefing days and a WhatsApp group open to all 30 Welsh housing associations.
As an active NHMF management committee member, Julian sits upon the organising committees for both the HAMMAR Southwest and HAMMAR Midlands regional groups and pro-actively assists with the provision of regular member briefing/seminar days. In addition, Julian has for the last 3 years co-organised the annual NHMF equivalent sector foreign study trips (including Berlin, Stockholm and The Hague in 2026).
