Jemma Bridgeman

Research Associate, WISERD, Cardiff University

I am a researcher at WISERD, Cardiff University, currently leading the Building Social Value and Fair Work in the Construction Industry project. My research explores how social procurement legislation can create fair work opportunities for people facing barriers to employment, and how vocational education can support youth transitions and address skills shortages.

My work spans education policy, youth homelessness, and social justice, with a focus on co-producing impactful, evidence-based solutions with communities and stakeholders. I have contributed to major ESRC-funded projects, including Excluded Lives, which examined school exclusion across the UK, and have published widely on alternative provision, youth voice, and participatory frameworks.

With experience in both academia and the third sector, I’ve led cross-sector initiatives supporting care-experienced young people, people with convictions, and those at risk of youth homelessness. My approach combines academic rigour with policy engagement, stakeholder collaboration, and a commitment to inclusive, ethical research.
