Social landlords face numerous pressures relating to their stock management. Among these are the needs to ensure that the stock retains, and ideally augments, its value at the same time as managing the functionality of the home and the landlord-resident relationship. Scientists have projected increased frequency of extreme weather events. Building up stock resilience to address these risks requires changes to works contracts and presents challenges including how to get residents to agree to works disruption for the prevention of the repercussions of climatic events rarely encountered, such as overheating, subsidence, water shortages, storm and flood damage. This session will give an overview of the emerging challenges, drawing on collective experience and knowledge of the risks presented by extreme weather events and how to build portfolio resilience in order to protect stock condition.
