Conference Workshop 3b

3B The Building Research HG and BRE ‘Victorian Terrace’ Refurbishment

This session will start with a brief introduction to the activities and benefits of the Building Research Housing Group (BRHG). Formed in 1992 to share information and best practice within the membership network and BRE, it is a large group of innovative social housing providers. They have an overall responsibility for more than one million homes, and spend over £2 billion per year on maintenance, management and development.

This will be followed by an update on the refurbishment of the ‘Victorian Terrace’ at BRE, explaining the problems encountered, solutions applied and incidental and renewable energy measures. There are internal and external insulation types, aerogels, phase-change cooling tiles, smart meters, LED lighting, MgO board and various sash window solutions. Can this be replicated across the UK by 2050?
