Unlocking Net Zero and Healthy Homes: NHMF Partnerships with Oxford Brookes
The UK must retrofit 29 million homes to meet its net zero target by 2050. But retrofitting isn't just about carbon. It's about health.
This year, the NHMF Net Zero and Healthy Homes Working Groups launched a partnership with Oxford Brookes University, unlocking access to world-class research on what matters most: keeping people safe, healthy and warm in a net zero future.
Two flagship projects are leading the way:
HEARTH is a £7.4 million Government-funded initiative exploring how the transition to net zero can protect vulnerable populations from heat-related illness and improve living conditions during extreme heat events.
INHABIT is tackling a critical challenge: retrofitting can trap moisture and pollutants, affecting air quality and health. Working with Professor Rajat Gupta, this £7 million research programme is developing practical solutions to safeguard indoor air quality, especially for vulnerable groups.
Real partnerships. Real research. Real-world impact.
If you're involved in housing, maintenance or sustainable building, this work is for you. NHMF members can now set dissertation topics for Masters students and participate directly in both research projects, translating academic expertise into solutions that benefit the whole sector.
Real evidence. Real homes. Real impact.
