Southwest HAMMAR Group

For those involved in social housing maintenance and asset management, Southwest HAMMAR is the forum for sharing information, improving knowledge and communicating with like-minded people in this field.

Join us for this FREE Compliance Focused technical seminar day hosted by HAMMAR Southwest, and taking place at the amazing National Self Build and Renovation Centre and exhibition space at Swindon.

The programme will include a variety of sessions upon Compliance Topics with:

  • Steve and David Adams from Western Lightning Ltd, covering Lightning Protection – how to risk assess your stock, and the practical application of testing, upgrades, good practice.
  • Richard Bennion + John Evison from iON-Consultants, will provide an update regarding duty holder asbestos compliance and the context around the HSE’s current 2024 ‘Asbestos: Your Duty to Manage’ Campaign. What you need to know – and what they typically find in compliance reviews/ incident investigations for social housing.
  • Ged Millward and David Smith from Ilecs Lift Consultants, are demystifying the latest in Lift Regulation and ensuring you understand what you need to know to avoid disaster and ensure seamless service provision.
  • Peter Wheeler, FRA Compliance Manager at Magna Housing and Connor Mitchell Sales Director at Harmony Fire will exemplify the optimum client/contractor relationship re a Fire Compliance contract. How working together as a team can overcome initial hiccups in a contract and move forward to a good working partnership.
  • Ahmad Shirazi & Joe Donelan from Hilti Ltd will cover an informative session around effective Dust Suppression, currently another HSE compliance focus. Learn about progressive practical dust suppression compliance, its relevance and practical technical approaches.

In addition the days programme includes:

  • Harvey Fremlin, Managing Director of the National Self Build + Renovation Centre will give all those attending a briefing about the centre, the exhibition and other facilities.
    There are over 200 manufacturers + suppliers in the Trade Village, as well as the New Build Zone and the Renovation House to see. These are available during seminar and lunch break.

    For those that wish to loiter after the days presentations there are 2 audio tours – New Build Zone and Renovation House. Both require the use of a smart phone and headphones and scanning the QR code at the start of both areas. Audio Tours last approximately 45 mins – 1 hour and attendees will need to bring their own headphones. Alternatively, they can listen on loud speaker but this may disturb others in the group also listening.

The HAMMAR Southwest Committee* will also provide an update upon:

  • A sector relevant Topical Update - social housing/ related sector activity + legislation.
  • The NHMF Net Zero Study Tour for 2024: a visit to Stockholm (15th to 17th May) to see the cutting edge ecological and net zero initiates there.
  • The next HAMMAR Southwest seminar day at Bath University on the 18 July 2024.
