The BSR has published its latest August & September Bulletins with further resources and free training to help the sector comply with the Building Safety Act, particularly in relation to Residents and Building Control.

What is new from the BSR on Building Safety?

BSR together with HSE is running Building safety training with HSE, offering 4 regular online and in-person courses aimed at PAPs, industry, and others. The courses introduce:

  • BSR and the Building Safety Act
  • the role of Accountable Persons and Principal Accountable Persons
  • the role of Client, Principal Designer and Principal Contractor
  • Developing accompanying documents for the building control process

The BSR has introduced an ebulletin for Principal Accountable Person (PAPs) for a higher-risk building that covers:

  • BSR updates and news specifically for PAPs
  • links to new or updated guidance
  • training opportunities

PAPS are encouraged to sign up to receive these bulletins.

What is the latest guidance for Building Control applications?

The BSR has published Building control applications: getting it right, detailing how to achieve high-quality, compliant submissions through early engagement and adopting an 'Identify, Clarify, Justify' approach when applying.

What other guidance has been produced for Building Control applications?

Construction Leadership Council (CLC) working with BSR has produced Building control guidance to improve the quality of applications from developers and reducing the number of those rejected.

What help is available for resident-managed high-rises?

Free online 'Introduction to the Building Safety Act 2022 for Resident Directors' training course is available to resident-managed high-rises with The Leasehold Advisory Service (LEASE). It is designed to equip thousands of resident-managed high-rises across England with essential building safety knowledge to comply with the Act. This course covers crucial topics such as:

  • getting ready for the building safety regime, including the Golden Thread
  • managing building safety risks and the Safety Case Report
  • resident engagement strategies, Mandatory Occurrence Reporting, and compliance
  • the Building Assessment Certificate process.

They have developed a quiz to help test the knowledge of resident directors who have completed the 2-hour course.

APs and PAPs should sign up to the receive the monthly BSR Bulletin to ensure they are up to date and informed of their legal responsibilities.

The Government has published its latest version of the Code of Practice for the remediation of residential buildings. The Code puts residents at the heart of remediation so they know what to expect during a remediation project. All remediation projects should comply with the Code.

The NHMF Best Practice website includes briefing on Building Safety, Fire Safety, and Resident Safety. The NHMF Annual Conference 2025 included a plenary on Building Safety and workshops.

In addition, the Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE) and Building a Safer Future (BSF) have entered a new strategic partnership support organisations assess their competency in relation to building safety, especially in regard to HRBs.
